First, I hope you are staying home and staying healthy. Second, please excuse the blurry video screen grab. And third, have you had a chance to watch my latest IGTV videos about cleaning out your closet?
Recently I discussed a key component to deciding what to keep and what to let go of in your closet, which is learning how to define your style. You should look at your clothes as examples of your signature style, you want them to define not only who you are, but also work with the way you live. But how do you define your style? Come up with some adjectives of what it is or what you want it to be. My adjectives are minimal, I don’t feel comfortable in overly-feminine things, tailored–I feel better is something that has structure, and classic with a twist. Then, come up with a color palette–one that defines your style and that you can also integrate consistently into your wardrobe.
And one idea that I think we have lost practice with is the concept of taking care of what you have by mending, cleaning and repairing those items which you’ve invested in, even if you plan to let them go. (Who doesn’t have a pile of those items sitting somewhere? Now, is a good time to tackle them.) In the video I talk about my favorite non-toxic stain cleaners (and the four products from The Laundress I swear by), where to get shoes repaired and more. It is all part of learning to live with less and taking a more sustainable approach to what you have and how you dress. Hope you enjoy them and stay tuned for more! x J
