Welcome to The Flair Index. TFI is not a site about me. (That would get old.) This page is.
My background: I spent almost 20 years working for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar (three different times/two different editors), and Lucky with some freelance writing here and there (New York Mag, Veranda, Elle Décor). I launched a luxury handbag line (which ended with the 2009 recession), co-founded a blog, Keepitchic.com, and created an eponymous jewelry line in 2013.
I have been married for 25 years and have two teenage daughters who still talk to me. (At least I think they do.)
Biggest lesson I’ve learned starting my own businesses? Patience is key—everything takes twice as long as it you think it should.
Why TFI? Because as an editor I love sharing information. But more than that, I love meeting and interviewing people–making connections, getting inspired, and seeing things from a different viewpoint. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do.
My best interviews to date? Alexander McQueen after his first show. Bumsters anyone? And Narciso Rodriguez. We had a lunch interview for his first ever fashion profile. He took a sprig of rosemary from the meal home and incorporated it into his next collection.
Daily ritual: Nothing happens before my morning coffee (old-school drip), an Oreo, and the New York Times. Without them, I’m no fun.
Favorite way to unplug? Outside in nature. Preferably hiking with my family.
Hidden talent/hobby: Guitar (a hobby as my talent is questionable), which I took up 4 years ago. Blues, Bossa Nova and some very lame Led Zeppelin attempts.
Coffee/Tea: Coffee. Always. All kinds.
Morning/Night: Morning only out of habit of getting my girls out the door for school.
Truth/Dare: Do I have to choose?
Heels/Flats: Flats, because I need to be mobile. My 4” editor heels collect dust in my closet now.
Pastels/Primaries. My favorite color is a nice Chinese red. Pastels only if they’re a bit twisted.
Dogs/Cats. Our family cavapoo Nike is my constant companion.
Manet/Mondrian. Anything modern or modernist and mainly sculptures by Calder, Brancusi, and Noguchi.
Enough about me…I hope you enjoy the site!
xx
