Last year when I had a jewelry presentation (at the gorgeous, modernist Apparatus Studio), Putnam & Putnam did my flowers. It was unlike getting any other floral arrangement I’ve ever received, because Michael (the designer) and his husband/business partner, Darroch, arrived carrying buckets of flowers, bags of live moss, and Michael created the arrangement on the spot. It was a mesmerizing process to watch. Michael is extraordinarily gifted and they are both so nice; it makes me happy when people like them become incredibly successful.
But I digress. The holidays are coming, and if you can’t get them to create an at home installation for you, I have found the next best thing: a how-to video with Michael creating a summer arrangement. If you live in New York, a visit to the flower district is a must to find unusual blooms. And with a fall arrangement, why not include fruit, berries and dried leaves? (Plus you need a low wide-mouth vase, tape, and wire mesh). I doubt my arrangement will look anything like one from Michael, but it will be better than a dozen stems in a vase. (Actually the one pictured above was created by a class student.) Click the link below to watch.
