I must admit I have yet to see Isabelle Huppert’s latest movie, Elle, for which she won a Golden Globe and is nominated for an Oscar tonight. (I will.) But, since T Magazine featured her on their cover in December I have been following her on Instagram and have become obsessed with her style. (Many of these images are from her feed.) Isabelle can look very feminine, embraces color, and is equally at home in a sharply tailored blazer and pants. But what I love most is that she is 63, isn’t afraid of her wrinkles, and is still as drop dead chic as they come.
Plus, she obviously has a wickedly playful side, which comes out in the NY Times Style section article today. “Because I’m French, people have a certain idea of my style…I’m not quite sure what that means. And note quite sure what it is that I’m supposed to represent,” she says. Perhaps she’s a reluctant style icon, or the kind of woman who dresses to please herself, your opinion be damned. No matter, I hope she doesn’t go under the radar after tonight, because I find her inspiring on many levels.
I agree that Isabelle has exquisite style. I loved her dress from the Golden Globes and many of her other looks that I consider very much to be in line with my own style. I was, however, a bit disappointed with her Oscar gown. Though a beautiful dress, I did not feel it did justice to Isabelle’s beauty and figure.
