Skipping More for Less Monday today, because Jamie Lee Curtis’ 10 Golden Rules on the last page of the new Porter magazine continues to resonate in my head. Couldn’t agree more to each one and thought if you haven’t read it, they might stick in your head for a while too.
- BE KIND. Kindness is free. It can be life-changing for the recipient and will instantly reset your day.
- BROOM REGULARLY. Not the actual act, which can be meditative and helpful, but we all need to de-clutter. There are so many who have so little; what you no longer use can be a whole new wardrobe or library for someone else.
- AVOID QUICK FIXES. Plastic surgery, fillers, injectables…they are simply a way for someone to make money–and you miserable.
- JUST LISTEN. It might sound old-fashioned but teach yourself to listen without the knee-jerk need to comment, suggest or disagree.
- LOOK IN THE MIRROR. You are looking at the problem. We assign blame for all our problems to others and rarely look at ourselves.
- LISTEN TO CLASSICAL MUSIC. The history and culture embedded in those notes is transformative. A lost language that is readily available on your radio.
- BE GENEROUS. Your internal wealth increases tenfold for every monetary gift you give.
- AVOID JUDGEMENT. It is too easy to judge others but we can never really understand the reality of another’s issues and circumstances.
- TURN OFF YOUR SCREENS. There is no study yet on how damaging too much screen time can be, but that data is coming and it will mean a sea change in the way we use technology. You can resist it.
- ZIP IT. Giving advice can be a hostile act, an assumption that you know better.
