On my to-do list this Spring, probably later in May when the flowers are in bloom, is the Matisse exhibit at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit, Matisse in the Studio, which opens April 9th, delves into the importance Matisse placed on objects and treasures he kept in his studio and how he used them and often objectified them in his artwork. Included among the drawings, paintings and cutouts will be some of his personal studio artifacts. Like Georgia O’Keefe’s clothes at the Brooklyn Museum, or Jackson Pollack’s preserved art studio and home in East Hampton, I am always interested by the objects artists surround themselves with.
The reason I want to go to Boston when the flowers are in bloom is to visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. I have never been and want to see the architecture and gardens as much as the Raphael’s and other works of art.
