I learned something about Thanksgiving the other day that I did not know. While it was a celebration of harvest and coming together that had origins going far back, Thanksgiving was not made an official holiday until 1863 by Abraham Lincoln. It was during the middle of the civil war, and Lincoln established the day as a time for families (some torn and ripped apart, or lost because of the war) to come together and celebrate the blessings of the land (and God).
We are thankfully not in the middle of a war, but we are in the most divisive times we’ve seen in ages. So my hope is this Thanksgiving, families and friends will put aside their differences and come together. We could all use it.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
xx
