Dutch Marie-Anne Oudejans, who founded the feminine clothing line Tocca in the 90s, has in the past few years married her vivid color sense and use of texture and pattern with traditional Indian design to create whimsically elegant interiors in Jaipur, where she now spends half the year. First it was the Bar Palladio in the Hotel Narain Niwas Palace, where she has an apartment. Then the Mumbai outpost of the famous Gem Palace. In the new Architectural Digest, Oudejans’s private apartment, which was recently renovated is featured. “Sometimes you need an adventure,” says Oudejans in the article. Her rooms are indeed exotic, escapist and delightful in the best sense of the word. With the proliferation of sameness in everything from interiors to clothing these days, I appreciate even more when someone has a unique vision. India is on my travel must list–I can’t wait to see some of these rooms in person one day.
