Today, after a two plus year renovation, the iconic Rose Reading room reopens at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue. Also, the adjacent Bill Blass catalog room has been restored to its former glory and looks as it originally did when it opened in 1911.
Some places are so quintessentially New York, they should be a must on any native’s or tourist’s to do list. Even though I have been in the impressive library many times, I have never (somewhat embarrassingly) set foot in the Rose Reading Room.
I am going to try to stop by today. And bring a book. Or at least a copy of the latest New Yorker. I feel a room that magnificent deserves time reading something worthwhile. If it’s not mobbed (a big possibility) and I make it in, I’ll post on Instagram. Stay tuned….
