Now that going out is finally a thing again, I’ve been focusing on a short list of items that I can rely on for dinners and cocktails, that can be mixed and matched (and some even worn during the day). It all starts with either a pair of simple jeans, or these new silk flat front trousers from Frances de Lourdes. They are tailored but have elastic at the back of the waist, so they fit the kind of post-pandemic requirements many of us want from our clothes–that they be chic and comfortable at the same time. While I will probably wear them with an FDL turtleneck and sneakers and my old Acne Studios camel wrap coat during the day, at night it will be a silk camisole (I bought a lace #oldceline tank on Vestiaire which I cannot wait to pull on), a tuxedo jacket (weirdly I don’t see a lot of them this season, but many black blazers will do), and to finish off I do want heels, a simple clutch, and a red lip. I also have a version of the Khaite top, below, and will I switch out with the camisole and a flat slide for a more relaxed look.

Beautiful things, of course mystified by the sandal heels for winter…but mostly, I’m handbag confused. Why would you not use your black Chanel bag with this? Or when do you use your Chanel? I bought one as you know, and am wondering….?

I am trying to find a good pair of winter heels, nothing yet. The white boucle Saint Laurent I wrote about are super stiff. Stay tuned if I find some. In the meantime, absolutely I carry my Chanel for evening and day. I just can’t find one to put up that someone could buy. xx

Jennifer, what do you wear when it gets extremely cold in NY? When the belted wool and cashmere coats don’t cut it. I would love to get your advice on this! Do you prefer a puffer coat or a luxurious shearling? I am trying to look chic but stay warm in the months to come. Thanks!
