I don’t usually have a lot of FOMO from looking at Instagram, but lately it seems like everybody is or has recently been to the Amalfi coast. I shouldn’t be jealous, I went last year for one week of a two week Italian extravaganza, but who wouldn’t have wanted to be at the dinner in Capri this week that Zimmerman clothing line hosted for the opening of their new store (center picture). Of if not there, to grab a reservation at the new Mezzatore Hotel on the island of Ischia that is owned by Marie-Louise Scio (the owner of the storied Il Pellicano which I have been to) and has recently appeared on so many magazine covers and in so many stories (and friends Instagram accounts) it’s hard to keep count.
While I’m a minimalist at heart, when done with panache, more can be more. And since Italians do al fresco dining to perfection, why not take a cue from their colorful traditions and set a vibrant summer table. If piling on prints and colors isn’t your thing, maybe choose one focus–a tablecloth, or a set of brilliantly hued glasses, as your standout. Buon appetito!
