As much as I love the now old-fashioned idea of dressing up to travel, it hardly makes sense anymore unless you’re flying private and don’t have to deal with all the dramas airports come with lately. In lieu, I look to the casual chic of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who get it right.
Next week I am off to Santa Fe for a much deserved break with my husband, which requires two flights (no direct from NYC) so I’m going for comfort and basing my outfit around my latest purchase, a pair of Frances de Lourdes black track pants cut from a cashmere/cotton blend. I had been thinking about them for a while and even asked founder Alejandra about them before I committed because they are slightly sheer, not in an overt way, but do require a longer shirt (for rear end coverage). I’m so happy I bought them; they feel heavenly and cool (stylistically, but also because they are lightweight). I will get a lot of use out of them. To wear with them for the flight(s)? A tank and shirt for layering, my old Birkenstock X Proenza Schouler sandals (which they just relaunched), sunglasses and a roomy bag.
And I promise more on Santa Fe–I have been going there since I was a young girl and got married there 29 (!!) years ago this September; it is a magical place and I will share all my favorites.
Frankie Shop shirt, $185; Frances de Lourdes pants, $465; Cartier Tank Francaise, $24,400; Celine sunglasses, $450; The Row bag, $2750; Re/Done tank, $85; Birkenstock X Proenza Schouler, $420.

Comment suggest black travel pants at a less expensive price point?

I know influencers get a commission on what they post but lower priced alternatives would also be much appreciated.

First, I love your suggestions, and as I’ve said before I look to this blog for inspiration. But, I do agree with this comment. As a teacher, many items are almost, if not more than I make in a month, and many of my students are close to poverty level. So that being said, I am very conscious of what I wear, I do not want to make the students feel less important and uncomfortable. No designer labels, brands, branding, etc.

It’s a perfect travel outfit and I’ll be curious to know if the pants shape holds up, or stretches out.
I do always appreciate your mix of high and low pieces, and all with wardrobe longevity. Have a great time in Santa Fe.

Very chic and simple; the best formula!

While price isn’t an issue for me, practicality when of what I’m wearing when I travel certainly is. Frances de Lourdes makes wonderful pieces, but on an airplane, a pair of cashmere pants is just not practical. Also love my Birkenstocks, but won’t travel in them. First of all, what do you do at TSA and second, don’t care to have my bare feet exposed in an airport.
Robyn, I thought you made a lot of great points. Thank you for the work you do.

Jennifer,
I adore your posts. I may not have as big a budget to spend as much on an item, however, I do follow most of the items you post and am able to buy the ones I love the most on sale. It take some work following them and waiting but many times I am able to score them for 70% off. It just takes time and patience. Keep doing what you are doing!
