This image of Amber Valetta wearing worn-in Gucci loafers from last year’s September Vogue is indelibly stuck in my head, because it reminds me that when you buy classic, well-made pieces, you can (and should) literally wear them out. I bought the same style Gucci loafers in black a few years back and while I didn’t want to wear them last year, this fall I have been pulling them out rather frequently. I wear them with everything–jeans, pants, and bare-legged with a satin skirt and oversized sweater. I recently saw the Khaite loafers (below) in person and they are elegant and modern, and The Row loafers are always iconic. You could also go chunky like the Proenza Schouler, something I like but know I won’t wear. If loafers are your thing, you’ll find more inspo pics on my IG today.
Left to right: 1st row, Porte & Paire, $250, Ferragamo, $561; 2nd row, Khaite, $740, The Row, $940: 3rd row, Proenza Schouler, $825; Gucci, $830.

I’ve had the Gucci loafer in brown and in black for a number of years. I haven’t worn either one once since lockdown, I hope I will going forward. However if I don’t, I know they’ll always been good. Never have felt the desire to replace them, so classic.

Love the classic loafer. Taking a bit of polish and a rag to well made, expensive items allows them to retain the patina of age without looking disrespectful to the craftsmanship.

Love this so much. I’m going to dig out my Gucci loafer slides if only to wear them around the house.
(I’m so very tired of only wearing my trainers when I go outside. When all this is over, I will have the biggest bonfire of sweats and athleisure…)
