A fashion show that changes how you think about dressing has become a rare phenomenon. But Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest collection for Louis Vuitton, shown over the weekend on the Cote d’Azur in St. Paul-de-Vence, did just that and could be one of his best (there were standouts during his Balenciaga tenure as well) to date. In fact, this show feels like the essence of Nicolas distilled–a madcap quilt of everything he’s ever done for any house, amalgamated into the most eclectic mix.
Even if you don’t plan on putting your name down for a LV piece for resort (they will be very expensive) there is a lot to take away here that anyone can apply to how they dress. And it is the idea to mix it all up–prints, feathers, tailored and soft, different layers, jewelry, sporty shoes. I admit it is not easy to do, it takes practice to get it right. But the idea of wearing things that don’t necessarily go together–creating a visual yin/yang sounds like a fun challenge.
