I like to have a reliable formula that I can play with when it comes to evening dressing, not necessarily because it makes life easier, but because it’s what I feel my best in. It always begins with a tuxedo blazer. I have a Pallas design from a couple of seasons ago which is no longer available, but really like this version from Wardrobe NYC. I do not own any Wardrobe pieces, but I have tried on their blazers and the tailoring is good (ignore the Hailey Beiber stuff they did, not sure why that happened, but I digress.) An ultimate with a more fashion-forward shoulder (pad) would be Saint Laurent. Then, I have written about holiday earrings for years now without finding a perfect pair; this year I made them. I love a good pearl, and the South Sea pearl drops I designed are significant but would work for day, too (they aren’t heavy, I have tiny earlobes and design accordingly). A pair of classic, but still fun heels and a clutch. My money is going into jewelry these days but I really love the new interpretation of the Bottega intrecciato; if I could buy a forever evening bag, this would be it. Finally, a smokey eye with my dark gray Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner in Ash. With these five elements you can add a lacey camisole and pair of silk pants (even silk pj bottoms), a simple camisole and black wool pants, a silk slip dress or skirt, even a pair of tailored shorts and a white tank if you’re somewhere warm–these pieces truly anchor everything.
