I, like so many Phoebe philes, wasn’t happy when Hedi Slimane was named the new Creative Director at Celine. And his first show, a reprise of everything he did at Saint Laurent, felt lazy and completely uninspired. But he is a talented designer and his latest show gives me hope. It is vintage Celine, as in most likely culled from the Seventies archives, which is my favorite decade.
Is it too retro? A bit, I am not sure about a pleated knee-length skirt. But if you separate the pieces–the culottes, the knee-high boots, the blazers, there are some good everyday go-to items. In fact, I was lucky enough to have a friend recently give me a pair of Gucci culottes she no longer wears, I can’t wait to wear them with my knee-high boots.

My feeling on the show: the jacket and pleated skirt- this is what my mom wore in the 70’s; the big shouldered tweed blazer, Laura Ashley-looking cotton ruffled shirt under a sweater- this is me in the 80’s and the sleek black suit with a black sequined turtleneck- is my goals for the 2020’s. I loved it.

I love the look of wool culottes with tall boots! I remember meeting a European woman on my college campus who was wearing something eerily similar to one of the pics above, and I recall thinking how chic she looked. I’m so down for this latest collection!
