I was helping someone with their closet and updating their wardrobe last week and she mentioned this Nells Nelson look/image (left) and how she wanted a pair of similar boots. I love a good fashion challenge and started searching for options, but also was reminded just how good three simple elements–a longer blazer, leggings and knee-high boots can be. Not trendy, not “fashiony”, but done well, the look is flattering on most people; plus, each element is a strong component of a capsule wardrobe. The ultimate jacket in my book, is this Nells Nelson, cut from wool and cashmere with a knit panel under the length of the arm that both allows for movement (without your jacket riding up every time you lift your arm) and a slimmer silhouette. I just bought these Theory scuba leggings, because believe it or not, I don’t own a pair (of leggings…at least ones that I don’t run in). I like these because the fabric is thicker for colder weather and a dark black, and they are fitted without being tight; I have muscular legs and don’t like leggings that hug everything. I love a block heel knee-high boot, but you will find me in my flat Khaite riding version (bottom). The boots I have chosen are more fitted; I do not understand the trend of super wide-calf knee-high boots, which is just that, a trend (and not a flattering one in my opinion.) See more options below.

This is (thanks to you from before) the exact outfit I’ll be wearing to my MIL’s 95th birthday dinner in NY. I’m wearing The Row zip up ankle boots as I get wear out of them in California. I did buy the Nells Nelson blazer and will never buy another brand – it’s so comfortable and I do love the longer length. It’s very comfortable and very flattering…. I’m almost 70. I was thinking the Maria Tash hoops over just this morning while exercising, and they’ve gone up in price!?!? – oh well….think I better buy anyway.

Nells Nelson blazer is quite perfect! The hoops come in different sizes, prices didn’t change, just featured different ones!

Is there a retailer in NYC that carries NN? I’ll be in town (from CA) next weekend and was hoping to be able to see/try the line in person. Thank you!
jennifer says
Perhaps you can meet the designer, Sisi. I am checking with her.

Stephanie, email info@nellsnelson.com, to schedule an appt to see the designs if you have time next week.

When the tall boot trend was in many years ago, I had a pair of riding boots, but gave them away. Since, I’ve not been a fan of pants/jeans tucked into boots. Until.. this post, this outfit is so elegant. Other than walking leggings and ones I wear around the house I don’t have proper leggings either, nor the tall boots. So, I may be on the hunt for both. Thank you!

I’ve bought two pairs of Theory leggings in the last several years and they are not your typical “leggings”. The quality is fantastic, super comfortable, not tight and always make me feel put together. I know I may be asking you to split hairs here, but is there a boot you’d recommend that’s between flat and 3″?

hi, would you be able to share the exact Theory style you love? Seems like there a couple to choose from! thanks!

I just came back from Neiman Marcus where I bought the Gianvito Rossi boots. I’m 5’2” so finding tall boots that look good has always been difficult. But these boots are perfect. Thank you!

What shirt would you wear with this look? This is where I get so confused!
