If you can get yourself to Tribeca, care about your hair, and like to indulge in a bit of pampering, I highly suggest you make your way to the Christophe Robin pop up “salon” at 42 Hudson Street. Robin is the premiere colorist in Paris, everyone from Catherine Deneuve to Tilda Swinton to fashion designers and editors trust their hair to his expert hand.
Robin opened this pop up, which runs until April 21st, to promote his line of natural hair care products. The French treat their hair differently than Americans and Robin’s line of salt scrubs, gentle shampoos and hydrating masks are about promoting scalp and hair health.
At the salon you will receive a hair consultation on which products would work best for your hair, and if you have time a shampoo and blow dry. All gratis. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. When I asked the woman behind the desk about a particular product, she told me to please hold on one second. Next thing I knew I was receiving a consult from the color maestro himself. Robin asked me to walk into the light so he could see my hair better, “Did I like my hair color?”, “Yes”, “I would like you to try the Warm Chestnut Shade Variation Care to warm up the highlights….it’s temporary”. “Ok.” Who was I to argue?
Off to the sink for a salt scrub shampoo, an amazing head massage and a Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil mixed with a touch of the Shade Variation Care. Then a quick, expert blow dry. My hair is honestly the softest it’s ever been. The Shade Variation Care, which washes out after 2 t0 3 shampoos, added warmth and depth to my color. I was a skeptic, but think I might be a Robin convert. I bought the recommended products. Considering how much I am willing to spend on skincare, it’s about time I show my hair a little love too.
