In NYC (and much of the North East) is has been August-hot for the past few days. The heat and humidity made me immediately want to switch to beauty products that are summer-oreinted in both scent and ingredients. Two are products I use every summer, two I’m trying for the first time. Here, my picks:
- Korres Basil Lemon Body Gel., $19.50. Sofia Coppola recommended this a few years back in W Magazine and I have been hooked ever since. A little gel applied with a loofah makes for the most refreshing shower. I use it in the morning after I go for a run and feel like I’m about to melt into the pavement. It is an instant mood and energy booster. Plus I never tire of the smell of fresh lemons in summer.
- Clarins Eau Dynamisante, $58. Clarins calls this a “treatment fragrance” because it uses the power of plants, in this case aloe vera and ginseng, for both aromatherapy and phytotherapy. It is supposed to vitalize and tone. Personally I like it because it feels quintessentially Eighties French to me and holds the same allure as Bain de Soleil used to. It has a fresh, zippy, sportif quality to it and is kind of light day fragrance that doesn’t overwhelm.
- Conscious Coconut Oil, $18. This organic, fair-trade certified tube of coconut oil looks like something I need to throw in my makeup bag. Coconut oil is the all-natural multi-tasker: a hair de-frizzer, moisturizer, makeup remover, you name it. The best part and why it’s so perfect for summer—that coconut smell.
- Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk Eau de Toilette, $125. There used to be a fragrance Jil Sander made called Sun (which you can still find overstock online) that smells like a perfect day at the beach. This scent contains citrus, coconut, musk and cedar which sounds to me like Big Sur by way of the Mediterranean. I love a scent that sparks wanderlust.
