What I’m Reading, Seeing + Want To Do This Week
I just ordered my copy of Yolo Journal, a travel magazine by editor Yolanda Edwards, the former creative director of Conde Nast Traveler. The first issue focuses on Italy and from the looks of her IG posts, and her deep knowledge of travel, I imagine thumbing through it is going to give me major wanderlust.
I can’t wait to see the movie Booksmart, directed by Olivia Wilde, with my older daughter. It looks wickedly funny and intelligent and both of us loved Ladybird so much (which you should definitely see if you haven’t). I am so glad there are movies with roles for young women like this. I wish there were more.
See Garry Winogrand: Color at the Brooklyn Museum. While the photographer was mostly known for his black and white photographs, he took over 45,000 color slides over his career that were never published. He was so brilliant at capturing life and Americana. And if you want to learn more, PBS has a brilliant documentary Garry Winogrand; All Things Are Photographable, which I saw recently.
See the TV show Fleabag, now in its second season starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge who also created Killing Eve (also now in its second season). If you haven’t seen Killing Eve, I highly recommend it; the character Villanelle, a young assassin with penchant for designer clothes and a devil-may-care attitude, might be one of the best TV characters in a long time.
It’s picnic time and I love the idea in Doen’s monthly newsletter that suggests purchasing a vintage picnic basket on Etsy to carry your wares. Plus a basket has got to be good for storing something at home when it’s not in use.
