Nothing beats an elegant, enveloping coat. It’s almost akin to a security blanket–a very chic one, you can walk out of the house in. Whenever I see a woman wearing one, whether she has the collar turned up, is in sneakers and sweats, heels and trousers, or boots and a dress, it immediately gives the impression she feels both cocooned and confident. (I suppose Victoria Beckham is making a point above; what else do you need besides a perfect coat?) Some day, but not this season, I will invest in a Max Mara camel hair version–the one shown here is such a gorgeous shade; it is a have forever. Do you have your security coat?

I had a black Fleurette cashmere robe coat that I bought when I was pregnant and then wore every winter for 23 years. I, too, covet a camel hair Max Mara. Unless I find one second-hand, I’m not sure I’ll ever make the investment.

I found a beautiful Max Mara coat on the real real.

I invested in the MM Manuela camel hair coat about 4 years ago. Unlike many things I have purchased in the past, no regrets! If I kept one coat, that would be it.

I love coats by The Loom, which is carried at Barney’s. Perfect, cozy and lightweight enough for California. Although that Max Mara coat has been on my wishlist forever….

On my last trip to a Paris, earlier this spring, I treated myself to the Max Mara Manuela coat in camel. It was about $1000 cheaper than in the US! it is indeed a forever coat.

My “comfort coat” is a gorgeous black robe coat by Eileen Fisher that I purchased second hand. At 5’10” tall, I feel dramatic and standout every time I wear it.
