If you’ve been following me, you know that with my epic closet clean out was a bag purge–I am currently down to three (a Celine black bucket and classic luggage brown style and a Bottega Cassette in red). So I am looking, slowly and deliberately, to add a couple. This YSL Le Maillon bag might be one. It reminds me of some of the Hermes shoulder bags from the 60s. I like that it doesn’t have a logo–something I’m not a big fan of, plus I have a sweet spot for anything with link/chain details. Obviously if I was a big influencer, I might have one by now (see below). But because I actually buy my clothes, I am much more conscious about where I spend my money. This feels timeless, it can be worn cross-body or on the shoulder (a must for me–no handhelds), and should fit my reading glasses and my sunglasses. I have ordered a black one from Bergdorf’s and can’t wait to see it in person. The Saint Laurent site has them in 7 (!) colors–I personally like the black, brown, white, red and hunter green. Decisions. Decisions.

I love this bag too but I dislike when they are ‘given’ to influencers and become too ‘visible’. I would like to get the tan one.

Agree, when they throw It bags at influencers in bulk it deeply devalues them. This is my problem with some of the Dior and Bottega bags. Call me snobby but it makes them feel decidely un-special 🙁
The Saint Laurent looks like a lovely yet sensible bag!

Would this be instead of the black Chanel?

It’s such a beautiful bag, classic in my opinion. And I would buy it in a heartbeat, if only it wasn’t being sent to influencers. Nothing saps the “specialness” of a bag or item faster than knowing it’s something that everyone has. It’s disappointing. So much of fashion is like this now it almost makes me not want to buy anything! I miss buying pieces that feel special and can’t be seen on everyone around you or on the internet.

It’s a beautiful bag, Jennifer. Classic, nice size and sans logo. Just bought the Bottega Cassette in black and wondering if I should keep it/is it a forever piece? I don’t buy pricey bags often…..
am in the camp of I don’t want what everyone else has either.

I used to think influencers were finding these cool products and sharing their experiences. I later realized that when I simultaneously saw multiple influencers with the same product that this was not the case.
