There are so many magazines these days and only so much time to get through them—hence, I’ve become selective about what I buy. A favorite? Holiday published by Atelier Durand. The newest issue on California (each issue is dedicated to a singular vacation destination) includes an essay by Joan Didion, the photographs of Bruce Davidson and some gorgeous fashion shoots from photographers such as Bruce Weber and Inez and Vinoodh .
Holiday is actually a relaunch, the original version was popular in the 50s and was published until 1977. Franck Durand is responsible for Holiday and it is no surprise that it is so good, he has deep fashion connections—his wife is Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris and his company is responsible for the ad campaigns and store concepts for French brands including Isabel Marant, Balmain and Aurelie Bidermann among others. And the Holiday brand continues to branch out. There is now a Holiday cafe in Paris, a favorite among the fashion set (no surprise) and even a few branded Holiday goods (t-shirts, candles, etc). It will be interesting to see how the brand continues to grow. In the meantime, I’m going to sit at home on this cold spring day and participate in some California dreaming.
