You might notice something if you subscribe to my new Substack letter, because it says “Since January 3rd”. That is when I first seriously thought of changing venues and signed up. At that point I might have been a bit ahead of the curve, now I am behind. Doesn’t matter. I would like to explain to you why I ultimately decided to make this switch.
I love beautiful, thoughtfully made things. I love style and clothes. That said, I truly believe in living with fewer, better things. Sometimes you need new things, more often than not you don’t. But that doesn’t mean the conversation on style should stop. And I still believe in promoting women-founded brands that are conscientious about how and what they create (I’m including my fine jewelry line in this category). In fact, I have a few collaborations with other designers this fall, which will first be shared on Substack, and going forward Substack readers will have first access to anything else I am working on.
The problem with this site is the only way I am compensated is by selling you things from major luxury retail sites. The more you buy, the more I make. Going forward I am happy to and absolutely will suggest things now and then–I am a customer of these sites myself, but I don’t want to push product I’m not passionate about.
Hence I am moving to Substack, where if you want to follow me, after a couple of free posts, you will have to pay for my content. It’s not a lot–$5 a month. This way, I can continue to be authentic about what I want to share with you, without the constraints of click commerce. I will be completely frank here, I have been toying with closing down TFI because of this, the business model bums me out–I struggle with it a lot. But I still have a lot I want to say, which hopefully you want to read.
I also think it might be a better opportunity to continue to grow a community of like-minded people.
If you subscribe to this newsletter, you will receive an email from my Substack where you can read my first post and have the opportunity to subscribe. For the time being, I am not closing down this site, you can still browse older posts and for now, it is a venue to buy The Wardrobe Project, which will continue. I hope you will join me on this new journey!
xx Jennifer

Jennifer, I was happy to follow you to Substack (and Threads) and I hope to see this lovely community there, too. Not only do I value your content and ideas, I think both new channels represent a positive change for my own media and consumption habits. I’m glad, too, that your existing posts here will remain up (at least for a while). I refer to them often.

I’ve signed up for a year and love the idea – however I can’t seem to comment there? Would love a similar post, but focused on country living items, rather than urban. Just an idea?
