I am now done adding items to this post (it was ongoing for a bit so you didn’t miss out). These are my edits for now. If there are more pieces, I will add them.
Jennifer, I’m really curious about how you decide when a trend is worth spending significant dollars on. For example, the Khaite black cut-out top in the first pic. I am seeing them everywhere right now – and perhaps I’m wrong – but it seems like a passing fad. How to navigate the difference between “the personality piece” and the temporary trend?
This is where I think you buy things based on your personal taste. Frankly, very things are forever pieces–even a classic black blazer from the 80s isn’t cut at all like one now. Most things date and age (not us though!) So with that in mind, I honestly don’t think there is anything wrong with having some modern, somewhat trendy pieces in your closet. Keep them to a minimum. Buy them if they really entice you and make you feel good, not because they’re everywhere. I do have a Khaite top, I don’t wear it often, but I do like it. And they are very expensive, even on sale, but better to buy it for less if you want it.
For what it’s worth, Modern Citizen and Banana Republic (and other similarly-priced brands) have similar tops this season at lower price points. I have the Modern Citizen one and I love it. Amazing with a nice tweedy skirt. <3
I agree Val. To me it screams fad. And it isn’t very wearable–I don’t think it looks stylish even on the thin model. (But even as I write this I realize that it would probably look very chic on Jennifer with her shorter hair and elegant mien…lol, and this is her blog.)
But I can’t understand why it is, even on sale, so ridiculously expensive.
Not trying to be a scrooge, I love the other pieces and some of the markdown prices are really good.
I think that top is an entirely individual thing. One woman could look at it and think of all the ways they’d wear it and jump on it, while the rest of us…not so much. Perhaps we all try to think “investment” when it comes to sales, but fashion should also be about enjoyment.
I think the MB slide price is excellent and they read to me as timeless. So much so that I bought a pair 🙂 Thanks, look forward to the updates on the post as we move into the New Year.
Jewelry design is very personal to me. I am drawn to designs that are timeless and bold. I believe jewelry should be an everyday luxury intrinsic to one’s style. To highlight my favorite pieces, some new, we photographed them in the city that inspires me—the place I have called home for over 35 years, and where each design is hand-crafted by artisans from ethically sourced gold. #finejewelry #madeinnewyork #ethicalfashion @emmasilke @kaori_chloe_soda...
Love the new Ripley series on Netflix. Shot in black and white in Southern Italy and Dakota Fanning in floaty linen separates. What could be better? #ripley #whatimwatching #dakotafanning...
