This is “fast fashion” I am 100% behind. Eons ago, when I went to the collections for Harper’s Bazaar, the coolest show in Milan was Jil Sander’s. The show was always at 9 am (early according to fashion standards), always at the same gallery and the invite list was tight with guests scrunched together on narrow, long uncomfortable benches. Jil was one of the first to really embrace minimalism; her clothes were so elegant and simple, but in an intelligent, and not at all basic, way. Today, minimalism is everywhere, but all minimalism isn’t created the same.
The last time Jil did a collab with Uniqlo in 2009, it was a huge hit. I still have the gray pea coat I bought and it has held up beautifully (I have given to my older daughter who wears it often). I could kick myself for not buying more pieces. This time, I hope I will have a better chance. What to look for? The coats and jackets–I think there are 9 options, the cotton button-down shirts and the cashmere sweaters. I can’t decide what I want most and am thinking of standing in line at one of the stores in Manhattan to have a chance. The collection drops this Thursday in mid-morning (as the site says), which to me means 11 am EST since the stores open then as well. If you’re at all interested, DO NOT procrastinate. You will lose out. Plus if you are unsure of your purchases you can always return them, or probably sell them on eBay for more. I will let you know if I’m successful. Here is the collection. (Pro tip: If you want to shop online, create a Uniqlo account prior so you can zip through checkout.)

Agreed. Love this collection. I went on our Canadian Uniqlo site at 7:30 am this morning, and many of the items are already sold out! I have already missed out on the jackets and sweater above.

How’d you do, Jennifer?

Jennifer, what did you end up thinking about the pieces and what did you get?
I’m waiting to get a few things I ordered online.
