As it finally, sort of, starts to cool off, I am ready to rework what I wear to run errands and on the weekend and am taking a cue from Dutch ceramist/fashion influencer Anouk Yve (she repeats her clothes often and I appreciate that). The three items I want to add to update what’s in my closet are 1) black pair of jeans with a flared leg to wear with sneakers, Birkenstocks and similar ankle-strap Chanel flats, 2) a beige/camel shirt, and 3) an oversized striped sweater. They are no-brainer, easy to mix and match pieces, but ones I don’t have. First up, the jeans; I’m going with the Plein in black from my friends at B Sides, see below, which you can find here and here.
I ordered this sweater from Zara, which is made from 55% responsibly sourced Viscose. I wish I could find an oversized cotton one similar to Anouk’s (from And Other Stories and completely sold out), but I haven’t had any luck.

And am considering this henley from Nili Lotan.

Add my Levi 501’s, a trench, and a button-down shirt and it’s a tightly edited wardrobe that works in multiple ways.
I just pinned the outfit with the striped top and ballet flats and planned to recreate it to wear on my weekly shopping trip to town, (Santa Cruz CA) The town is a very casual beach town and I’ll probably feel overdressed but will wear it anyway. Loved the post.
Jennifer, have you checked out the Alex Mill “Jacques” sweater? Quite similar! https://www.alexmill.com/products/jacques-stripe-pullover-in-dark-navy-ivory
I didn’t see your comment until now. I just ordered it. What do you think?
Hi Robyn,
The jeans arrive today–I will let you know!
Love both outfits.
Jennifer these are wonderful suggestions. All your ideas can work for work. As a teacher I enjoy causal but classic basics that can be washed. I have ordered a similar striped sweater and some pleated chinos from Alex Mill. This fall my interest in stripes has re-emerged. I’ve never bought from them before so we’ll see. They also have a polo sweater that I may try as well. Now, my hunt for jeans continues. Please let us know how the jeans fit. Thanks
I love B Sides jeans! I’ve had my eye on these ones for a while.
Me too. Sizing is limited so don’t wait too long.
I have these exact jeans in black and in blue denim. Love them. I just ordered the Zara sweater you posted – thanks!
Love that you post real items that are wearable!
I also just bought the Jil Sander x Birkenstock mules that she wears often. Those will be my “Chanels” which would be odd here in Ojai.
Nice! Those are good. And went so quickly.
I always love your suggestions and have followed Anouk ever since you mentioned her. Have you checked out La Ligne for sweaters? They did have one similar to the striped And Other Stories that Anouk wears.
Kathy, aAre the covered clod? Love them! Which color did you get?
Janet
Yes, collaboration with Jil Sander, a Birkenstock mule with a back strap. Suede, olive green. I got mine at Bergdorfs. They haven’t arrived yet, but I think they’ll be great. Cool with socks too.

I received the Alex Mill package today. The striped sweater, very much like the one in the picture is wonderful. I can’t wait till it cools off in Virginia to wear it. Secondly, I bought two cardigans from them as well. They are fantastic. In the purchase were some B Sides jeans. They are what I’ve been looking for. On me they run small. Typically, I wear a 25, but ordered a 26. The hips and leg are perfect. The waist is slightly tight, but I have a very straight shape with little delineation from my waist to hips. I’ll keep the 26, because I’m concerned the legs and hip of a 27 will be too baggy.
Good to know, Robyn! <3
