The groaning and moaning many of us did at the over-the-top spectacle of street style at fashion weeks pre-pandemic was well-warranted. It was out of control. Then it all abruptly ended. This week, seeing women dressed at couture in Paris, however, was a welcome return. As much as couture might seem frivolous (and on some levels it is), they were my favorite shows to attend. Everyone made an effort to get dressed and the schedule was more relaxed so you could actually enjoy Paris and all its beauty.
The idea of dressing up and celebrating now feels so appealing, plus the limited number of couture attendees means only those who take their jobs seriously, those who take their fashion shopping very seriously, and the occasional celeb were in attendance. I pulled together a montage of favorite street and runway moments and wouldn’t you know, a very clear color palette emerged. I also like the classic sophistication that seems to be showing up here and there, like Jeanne Damas at Vuitton top photo, and of course, the shows. Enjoy!

Beautiful post as always and so refreshing to see more sober street style (perhaps because international travel is limited/ complicated, most of these women are actually French – might explain it!). Quick note: you wrote Jennifer Nyet under a photo fo Eugenie Trochu of Vogue Paris.

Thank you for the correction!

I really love the second-to-last tall and lanky brunette in the long trench with the bootcut black pants and sneakers. So perfectly, timelessly and effortlessly edgy and modern. And I’m 99% sure, so Parisian. They manage that just-thrown-together yet pulled-together look so well.
Love Jeanne Damas’ look too — more effortless chic and her hair is perfect.

Pretty sure she is a model, hence the lankiness, not sure where she is from though.

She’s got the cool model-after-work vibe down. Not every model manages that (Freja Beha Erichsen has it down).

What a gorgeous post. Those LV sandals in the first photo are amazing. Any idea when they will be available?
