If you follow Sara Beltran’s Instagram feed you will quickly learn she loves to travel and probably also fall hard (like I have) for her ocean-inspired jewelry line, Dezso. Her pieces are like the kind of luxe souvenirs you wish you could find in your ventures, but rarely do (which is why I bought a couple of charms before my trip to wear while traveling). I have profiled Sara before; here, she shares her affordable in-flight ensemble, her beauty essentials, and where she finds her favorite souvenirs.
What do you love about traveling? Every time I travel I learn something and I love to get exposed to different cultures and learn about life and the world.
Favorite destination you’ve been to and why: One of my favorite trips in the last couple of years has been Cuba. It was a very special trip for many reasons–it was for my 39th bday, was during the biennial for art and I was with my best friend. The whole time I was there I kept feeling like I had been there before.
Dream list destination and why: I keep dreaming of Africa, it’s been on the top of my list for a long time. I love eccentric places. Also on top of my list is Polynesia. I have two really good friends living there, I need to make the time to make it happen.
Where are you going this summer? I am going to Positano and probably a short trip to the beach in Mexico, but I haven’t decided yet.
Favorite room with a view: Any window facing the ocean. And last year I visited Osaka where it was snowing like crazy–the view was all white, very romantic and beautiful.
Carry-on or checked luggage? Both! Hahaha it’s never enough!
Kind of luggage + carry on: I’ve had a Louis Vuitton carry on for years now and for big check-in always Rimowa.
Over-packer or minimalist? I try to stay minimalist as I always come back with more. I love to shop–I can’t help myself.
Flight essentials: Cashmere scarf, my Diamond Extreme face lotion by Natura Bisse, Skin Trip Coconut Body Lotion and Bose head phones.
Favorite travel outfit: A T-shirt, a men’s Uniqlo sweatshirt and sweat pants.
What’s on your packing list this summer: Sandals (l love K. Jacques), swimsuits and just super relax outfits.
Travel beauty essentials: I only use Natura Bisse, the list is very long including the Diamond Extreme Body and Face Lotion which is a ***must, the Essential Shock products are also insane, and the Sunscreen Vitamin C.
Do you take anything for your room: I love to carry incense, it’s always some sort of wood one like Palo Santo or sandalwood. Recently I love the wood one from the Japanese temples.
When I check into a hotel the first thing I do is….. I like to unpack, get organized and feel like I am home. I am super OCD.
Always pack an extra ______just in case: I always have my swimsuit just in case I decide to go to the beach from whereever I am.
Favorite souvenir shopping: I am obsessed with stuff for the house. I was recently in Ardeche in France for a friend’s wedding and ended up in a little town where I found a small artisanal ceramic store. I ended up buying some super beautiful salad bowls.
How do you create trip memories: My phone. I stopped carrying a camera because phone pictures are so good.
Summer travel means: I am always in place where it’s sunny and so summer travel doesn’t mean much to me. I am actually learning to love winter. Since I lived full-time in India for three years, it made me realize how I love winter as well–it can be as sexy as summer.
